There was a predecessor organization to the Virginia Glee Club–the Carr’s Hill Glee Club, dating to 1861. I guess the war interrupted it. (See discussion of the Carr’s Hill Glee Club in historical context in the liner notes to Shadow’s on the Sundial.)
